Welcome to Spirit Keeper Youth Society |
Spirit Keeper Youth Society was established on May 21, 2003 and came into being as a direct result of a vision to provide a safe place for Aboriginal children and to deliver a variety of multi-cultural, community based services in a culturally sensitive manner. Spirit Keeper Youth Society addresses the escalation and growth of Aboriginal gangs in the city. The Board of Directors consists of a 'hands on daily' group of aboriginal professionals each with their own area of expertise in business, program development and crime prevention.
Spirit Keeper Youth Society works in conjunction with other organizations, service providers and professionals to provide a well-rounded quality service. Spirit Keeper works with the community (public, civic, and corporate) to slow down the gang recruitment process and to provide an escape mechanism for gang members to extradite themselves from the gang environment and redirect their energies to becoming productive, positive additions to society.
The agency "Spirit Keeper Youth Society" is founded on the principle of "Kaya Puk Chi" which means to never give up. Since our opening, SKYS has experienced steady growth and has expanded its programs and services.
